| 9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 501, Government Code, is | |
| 11 | 11 | amended by adding Section 501.0166 to read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | Sec. 501.0166. PROVIDING DISCHARGED INMATE WITH VOTER | |
| 13 | 13 | REGISTRATION APPLICATION FORM. Before discharging an inmate who | |
| 14 | 14 | has fully completed the inmate's sentence, including any term of | |
| 15 | 15 | parole or supervision, the department shall determine whether the | |
| 16 | 16 | inmate is eligible for registration as a voter in this state under | |
| 17 | 17 | Section 13.001, Election Code. If the inmate is eligible for | |
| 18 | 18 | registration under Section 13.001, Election Code, the department | |
| 19 | 19 | shall provide to the inmate an official voter registration | |
| 20 | 20 | application form when the department discharges the inmate. | |
| 21 | 21 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2013. |
