99 AN ACT
1010 relating to the use of sick leave by state employees who are
1111 attending educational activities of their children.
1212 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1313 SECTION 1. The heading to Section 661.206, Government Code,
1414 is amended to read as follows:
1515 Sec. 661.206. EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES [PARENT-TEACHER
1616 CONFERENCE]: USE OF SICK LEAVE.
1717 SECTION 2. Sections 661.206(b), (c), and (d), Government
1818 Code, are amended to read as follows:
1919 (b) An employee may use up to eight hours of sick leave each
2020 fiscal year to attend educational activities of [parent-teacher
2121 conference sessions for] the employee's children.
2222 (c) An employee shall give reasonable advance notice of the
2323 employee's intention to use the sick leave to attend an educational
2424 activity [a parent-teacher conference].
2525 (d) In this section:
2626 (1) "Educational activity" means a school-sponsored
2727 activity, including a parent-teacher conference, tutoring, a
2828 volunteer program, a field trip, a classroom program, a school
2929 committee meeting, an academic competition, and an athletic, music,
3030 or theater program.
3131 (2) "Employee" has the meaning assigned by Section
3232 661.001.
3333 (3) [(2)] "Parent" means a person standing in parental
3434 relation.
3535 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3636 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3737 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3838 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3939 Act takes effect September 1, 2013.
