| 7 | 7 | | relating to applying credit earned by a student at a general |

| 8 | 8 | | academic teaching institution to an associate's degree at a |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | lower-division institution of higher education previously attended |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | by the student. |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 12 | 12 | | SECTION 1. Section 61.833(b), Education Code, is amended to |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | read as follows: |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | (b) This section applies to a student enrolled in a general |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | academic teaching institution who: |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | (1) transferred to the institution from or previously |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | attended a lower-division institution of higher education; |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | (2) earned at least 30 credit hours for course work |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | successfully completed at the lower-division institution of higher |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | education; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | (3) has earned a cumulative total of at least 66 [90] |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | credit hours for course work successfully completed. |

| 23 | 23 | | SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act to Section |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | 61.833(b), Education Code, applies beginning with the 2013 fall |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | semester. A semester or other academic term before the 2013 fall |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | semester is covered by the applicable law as it existed before the |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | effective date of this Act, and the former law is continued in |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | effect for that purpose. |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2013. |
