| 12 | 12 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 13 | 13 | | SECTION 1. (a) The office of inspector general of the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Health and Human Services Commission shall review the manner in |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | which: |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | (1) the office investigates fraud, waste, and abuse in |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | the supplemental nutrition assistance program under Chapter 33, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Human Resources Code, including in the provision of benefits under |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | that program; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | (2) the office coordinates with other state and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | federal agencies in conducting those investigations. |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | (b) Not later than September 1, 2014, and based on the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | review required by Subsection (a) of this section, the office of |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | inspector general of the Health and Human Services Commission shall |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | submit to the legislature a written report containing strategies |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | for addressing fraud, waste, and abuse in the supplemental |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | nutrition assistance program under Chapter 33, Human Resources |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Code, including in the provision of benefits under that program. |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | (c) This section expires January 1, 2015. |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2013. |
