| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, More than 85 years ago, the city of Mansfield was the |

| 10 | 10 | | birthplace of Best Maid Products, a leading manufacturer of pickles |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | and other condiments; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, The company began in the kitchen of Mildred and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Jessie Otis Dalton, who lived in a small stone house in Mansfield; |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Mrs. Dalton's homemade pies, mayonnaise, sandwich spread, and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | pickles were popular with the customers in her husband's grocery, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | and in 1926, they founded the Best Maid company; today the company |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | is best known for its popular pickles and dressings, selling 50 |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | million pickles a year under the Best Maid and Del-Dixi brands; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Since 2012, Mansfield has celebrated its fame as the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | birthplace of this pickle empire by staging the World's Only Best |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Maid St. Paddy's Pickle Parade and Palooza every March, to coincide |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | with St. Patrick's Day; this festive attraction features a parade, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | food vendors, musical performances, and three fun runs, as well as |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | pickle-eating and pickle-juice-drinking competitions; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, The Pickle Parade and Palooza highlights the |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | community as the home of a distinctive brand of pickles and pickle |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | products, and the fun-loving citizens of Mansfield may indeed savor |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | their association with this iconic Texas treasure; now, therefore, |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | be it |

| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the 83rd Legislature of the State of Texas |

| 31 | 31 | | hereby designate Mansfield as the official Pickle Capital of Texas; |

| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That in accordance with the provisions of Section |
