88 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
99 WHEREAS, Texas has the strongest economy in the South and
1010 leads the region in population growth, creating greater demand for
1111 water; and
1212 WHEREAS, Water desalination, already common in the
1313 Caribbean, the Middle East, and elsewhere, is worth exploring as
1414 the state strives to meet future water needs of citizens,
1515 agriculture, and industry; and
1616 WHEREAS, The future prosperity of Texas depends heavily on
1717 the availability of water, and it is imperative that we fully
1818 understand all of our options when it comes to securing this vital
1919 resource; now, therefore, be it
2020 RESOLVED, That the 83rd Legislature of the State of Texas
2121 hereby request the lieutenant governor and the speaker of the house
2222 of representatives to create a joint interim committee to study
2323 water desalination in Texas; and, be it further
2424 RESOLVED, That the committee's proceedings and operations be
2525 governed by such general rules and policies for joint interim
2626 committees as the 83rd Legislature may adopt.
