55 A JOINT RESOLUTION
66 proposing a constitutional amendment to require a person to be a
77 resident of this state for five years preceding the person's
88 election to the Texas House of Representatives.
99 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 7, Article III, Texas Constitution, is
1111 amended to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 7. No person shall be a Representative[,] unless the
1313 person is [he be] a citizen of the United States, and, at the time of
1414 [his] election as a Representative, a qualified voter of this
1515 State, and shall have been a resident of this State five [two] years
1616 next preceding the [his] election, the last year thereof a resident
1717 of the district for which the person [he] shall be chosen, and shall
1818 have attained the age of twenty-one years.
1919 SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
2020 submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 5, 2013.
2121 The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the
2222 proposition: "The constitutional amendment requiring a person to be
2323 a resident of this state for five years preceding the person's
2424 election to the Texas House of Representatives."
