9 | 9 | BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 7, Article III, Texas Constitution, is | |
11 | 11 | amended to read as follows: | |
12 | 12 | Sec. 7. No person shall be a Representative[,] unless the | |
13 | 13 | person is [he be] a citizen of the United States, and, at the time of | |
14 | 14 | [his] election as a Representative, a qualified voter of this | |
15 | 15 | State, and shall have been a resident of this State five [two] years | |
16 | 16 | next preceding the [his] election, the last year thereof a resident | |
17 | 17 | of the district for which the person [he] shall be chosen, and shall | |
18 | 18 | have attained the age of twenty-one years. | |
19 | 19 | SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be | |
20 | 20 | submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 5, 2013. | |
21 | 21 | The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the | |
22 | 22 | proposition: "The constitutional amendment requiring a person to be | |
23 | 23 | a resident of this state for five years preceding the person's | |
24 | 24 | election to the Texas House of Representatives." |
