66 AN ACT
77 relating to applying credit earned by a student at a general
88 academic teaching institution to an associate's degree at a
99 lower-division institution of higher education previously attended
1010 by the student.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Subsection (b), Section 61.833, Education Code,
1313 is amended to read as follows:
1414 (b) This section applies to a student enrolled in a general
1515 academic teaching institution who:
1616 (1) transferred to the institution from or previously
1717 attended a lower-division institution of higher education;
1818 (2) earned at least 30 credit hours for course work
1919 successfully completed at the lower-division institution of higher
2020 education; and
2121 (3) has earned a cumulative total of at least 66 [90]
2222 credit hours for course work successfully completed.
2323 SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act to Subsection
2424 (b), Section 61.833, Education Code, applies beginning with the
2525 2013 fall semester. A semester or other academic term before the
2626 2013 fall semester is covered by the applicable law as it existed
2727 before the effective date of this Act, and the former law is
2828 continued in effect for that purpose.
2929 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3030 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3131 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3232 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3333 Act takes effect September 1, 2013.
