SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 185 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure in recognizing the University of Houston System and its satellite campuses as they celebrate February 13, 2013, as University of Houston System Day at the State Capitol; and WHEREAS, The University of Houston System service area encompasses one quarter of Texas' population and generates almost one third of the state gross product; the university system's economic impact exceeds $3.2 billion annually for the region; and WHEREAS, Serving some 66,000 students, the University of Houston System includes campuses in Clear Lake, Victoria, and downtown Houston and teaching centers in Sugar Land, Katy, northwest Houston, and Pearland; over the years, more than 300,000 students have graduated from these prized institutions of higher learning; and WHEREAS, These campuses greatly benefit from the deep commitment shown by their faculty, staff, alumni, and administrative bodies; they are led with integrity and dedication by system chancellor and University of Houston president Renu Khator, University of Houston-Downtown president Bill Flores, Clear Lake campus president William Staples, and Victoria campus president Phil Castille; and WHEREAS, The University of Houston System is an enduring and invaluable force in the provision of quality higher education for Texans, and a majority of its graduates remain in this state and contribute devotedly to the economic and social vitality of Texas; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby commend the University of Houston System on its dedication to excellence and extend best wishes to all of its delegates for an enjoyable and productive University of Houston System Day at the State Capitol; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in honor of this special day and as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
