SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 707 WHEREAS, Dr. Chris W. Hulen is retiring as superintendent of the Coolidge Independent School District in June 2013, bringing to a close an outstanding career in public education; and WHEREAS, The principal at Coolidge Elementary School from 1995 to 2000, Dr. Hulen assumed the responsibilities of superintendent of the district in 2000; he previously served as an administrator in the Newton and Duncanville schools, and he has taught band and music in the Granbury, United, Kaufman, Carrollton-Farmers Branch, and Houston Independent School Districts; and WHEREAS, Dr. Hulen is a native of Dallas who graduated from H. Grady Spruce High School in 1972; he earned a bachelor's degree in music performance from The University of Texas at Dallas and a master's degree in music supervision and a doctorate in educational administration and marketing from the University of North Texas; and WHEREAS, After retirement, Dr. Hulen looks forward to sharing more time with his wife of 32 years, Rena, who is a former orchestra director and music teacher; they plan to move to Forney to be closer to other family members; and WHEREAS, Dr. Chris Hulen has worked to foster a supportive and challenging learning environment in the Coolidge schools, and his achievements will continue to benefit the area for years to come; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby congratulate Dr. Chris W. Hulen on his retirement as superintendent of the Coolidge Independent School District and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be prepared for Dr. Hulen as an expression of high regard by the Texas Senate.
