| 13 | 7 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 14 | 8 | | SECTION 1. Section 15(f), Article 42.12, Code of Criminal |
|---|
| 15 | 9 | | Procedure, is amended by adding Subdivision (2-a) to read as |
|---|
| 16 | 10 | | follows: |
|---|
| 17 | 11 | | (2-a) Not later than the 60th day after the date a |
|---|
| 18 | 12 | | defendant is received into the custody of a state jail felony |
|---|
| 19 | 13 | | facility, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice shall notify the |
|---|
| 20 | 14 | | sentencing court of the date on which the defendant will have served |
|---|
| 21 | 15 | | 75 days in the facility. The notice must be provided by e-mail or |
|---|
| 22 | 16 | | other electronic communication. |
|---|
| 23 | 17 | | SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act to Section |
|---|
| 24 | 18 | | 15(f), Article 42.12, Code of Criminal Procedure, applies only to a |
|---|
| 25 | 19 | | defendant who receives a sentence of confinement in a state jail on |
|---|
| 26 | 20 | | or after the effective date of this Act. A defendant who receives a |
|---|
| 27 | 21 | | sentence of confinement in a state jail before the effective date of |
|---|
| 28 | 22 | | this Act is governed by the law in effect at the time of sentencing, |
|---|
| 29 | 23 | | and the former law is continued in effect for that purpose. |

| 30 | 24 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
