14 | 8 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
---|
15 | 9 | | SECTION 1. Section 411.1882(a), Government Code, is amended |
---|
16 | 10 | | to read as follows: |
---|
17 | 11 | | (a) A person who is serving in this state as a judge or |
---|
18 | 12 | | justice of a federal court, as an active judicial officer[,] as |
---|
19 | 13 | | defined by Section 411.201, [or] as a district attorney, assistant |
---|
20 | 14 | | district attorney, criminal district attorney, assistant criminal |
---|
21 | 15 | | district attorney, county attorney, or assistant county attorney, |
---|
22 | 16 | | as a supervision officer as defined by Section 2, Article 42.12, |
---|
23 | 17 | | Code of Criminal Procedure, or as a juvenile probation officer may |
---|
24 | 18 | | establish handgun proficiency for the purposes of this subchapter |
---|
25 | 19 | | by obtaining from a handgun proficiency instructor approved by the |
---|
26 | 20 | | Texas Commission on Law Enforcement for purposes of Section |
---|
27 | 21 | | 1702.1675, Occupations Code, a sworn statement that indicates that |
---|
28 | 22 | | the person, during the 12-month period preceding the date of the |
---|
29 | 23 | | person's application to the department, demonstrated to the |
---|
30 | 24 | | instructor proficiency in the use of handguns. |
---|
31 | 25 | | SECTION 2. Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code, is |
---|
32 | 26 | | amended by adding Section 411.1953 to read as follows: |
---|
33 | 27 | | Sec. 411.1953. REDUCTION OF FEES FOR COMMUNITY SUPERVISION |
---|
34 | 28 | | AND CORRECTIONS DEPARTMENT OFFICERS AND JUVENILE PROBATION |
---|
35 | 29 | | OFFICERS. Notwithstanding any other provision of this subchapter, |
---|
36 | 30 | | an applicant who is serving in this state as a supervision officer, |
---|
37 | 31 | | as defined by Section 2, Article 42.12, Code of Criminal Procedure, |
---|
38 | 32 | | or as a juvenile probation officer shall pay a fee of $25 for the |
---|
39 | 33 | | issuance of an original or renewed license under this subchapter. |
---|
40 | 34 | | SECTION 3. The change in law made by this Act applies only |
---|
41 | 35 | | to a concealed handgun license issued or renewed on or after the |
---|
42 | 36 | | effective date of this Act. A concealed handgun license issued or |
---|
43 | 37 | | renewed before the effective date of this Act is covered by the law |
---|
44 | 38 | | in effect on the date the license was issued or renewed, and the |
---|
45 | 39 | | former law is continued in effect for that purpose. |
---|
46 | 40 | | SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
