104 AN ACT
115 relating to the application of certain concealed handgun license
126 laws to community supervision and corrections department officers
137 and juvenile probation officers; reducing a fee.
148 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
159 SECTION 1. Section 411.1882(a), Government Code, is amended
1610 to read as follows:
1711 (a) A person who is serving in this state as a judge or
1812 justice of a federal court, as an active judicial officer[,] as
1913 defined by Section 411.201, [or] as a district attorney, assistant
2014 district attorney, criminal district attorney, assistant criminal
2115 district attorney, county attorney, or assistant county attorney,
2216 as a supervision officer as defined by Section 2, Article 42.12,
2317 Code of Criminal Procedure, or as a juvenile probation officer may
2418 establish handgun proficiency for the purposes of this subchapter
2519 by obtaining from a handgun proficiency instructor approved by the
2620 Texas Commission on Law Enforcement for purposes of Section
2721 1702.1675, Occupations Code, a sworn statement that indicates that
2822 the person, during the 12-month period preceding the date of the
2923 person's application to the department, demonstrated to the
3024 instructor proficiency in the use of handguns.
3125 SECTION 2. Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code, is
3226 amended by adding Section 411.1953 to read as follows:
3327 Sec. 411.1953. REDUCTION OF FEES FOR COMMUNITY SUPERVISION
3428 AND CORRECTIONS DEPARTMENT OFFICERS AND JUVENILE PROBATION
3529 OFFICERS. Notwithstanding any other provision of this subchapter,
3630 an applicant who is serving in this state as a supervision officer,
3731 as defined by Section 2, Article 42.12, Code of Criminal Procedure,
3832 or as a juvenile probation officer shall pay a fee of $25 for the
3933 issuance of an original or renewed license under this subchapter.
4034 SECTION 3. The change in law made by this Act applies only
4135 to a concealed handgun license issued or renewed on or after the
4236 effective date of this Act. A concealed handgun license issued or
4337 renewed before the effective date of this Act is covered by the law
4438 in effect on the date the license was issued or renewed, and the
4539 former law is continued in effect for that purpose.
4640 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
