97 relating to designation of an employee within certain state
108 agencies as a veterans liaison.
119 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1210 SECTION 1. The heading to Chapter 657, Government Code, is
1311 amended to read as follows:
1412 CHAPTER 657. VETERAN'S EMPLOYMENT PREFERENCES; VETERANS LIAISON
1513 SECTION 2. Chapter 657, Government Code, is amended by
1614 adding Section 657.011 to read as follows:
1715 Sec. 657.011. VETERANS LIAISON. (a) In this section:
1816 (1) "State agency" means a board, commission, council,
1917 committee, department, office, agency, or other governmental
2018 entity in the executive, legislative, or judicial branch of state
2119 government, including an institution of higher education as defined
2220 by Section 61.003, Education Code.
2321 (2) "Veteran" has the meaning assigned by Section
2422 657.002(c).
2523 (b) Each state agency with more than 500 full-time
2624 employees, using existing resources and employees, shall designate
2725 a full-time employee of the agency to serve as the veterans liaison
2826 for the agency. The employee's duties serving as the veterans
2927 liaison are secondary to the employee's primary duties for the
3028 agency.
3129 (c) The veterans liaison shall:
3230 (1) stay informed on trends and developments in
3331 hiring veterans for positions within the agency and of services
3432 available to veterans within and outside the agency;
3533 (2) recruit veterans for open positions within the
3634 agency; and
3735 (3) serve as the contact for veterans within and
3836 outside the agency to provide information about the agency and
3937 veterans employment and services available within and outside the
4038 agency.
4139 SECTION 3. Not later than December 1, 2015, each state
4240 agency with more than 500 full-time employees shall designate a
4341 full-time employee of the agency to serve as the veterans liaison
4442 for the agency as required by Section 657.011, Government Code, as
4543 added by this Act.
4644 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
