84R8552 JSC-F By: Kuempel H.B. No. 1547 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT relating to the funding of emergency medical services and trauma care. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: SECTION 1. Section 773.122, Health and Safety Code, is amended by adding Subsections (b-1), (b-2), and (b-3) to read as follows: (b-1) The catastrophic emergency medical services account is a dedicated account in the general revenue fund. Money from the account may be appropriated only for the purposes of this section in a situation in which the reserve described by Subsection (b) is insufficient to cover costs. (b-2) At the end of each fiscal year, the commissioner shall deposit the unexpended balance of the reserve described by Subsection (b) into the catastrophic emergency medical services account. (b-3) If at the end of a fiscal year the amount of money in the catastrophic emergency medical services account, together with the unexpended balance of the reserve described by Subsection (b), exceeds $2 million, the comptroller shall transfer any amount that exceeds $2 million to the supplemental emergency medical services grant account under Section 773.1221. SECTION 2. Subchapter E, Chapter 773, Health and Safety Code, is amended by adding Section 773.1221 to read as follows: Sec. 773.1221. SUPPLEMENTAL EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES GRANT ACCOUNT. (a) The supplemental emergency medical services grant account is a dedicated account in the general revenue fund into which money is deposited under Section 773.122(b-3). (b) Money in the account may be used only to fund grants under Section 773.119. SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
