| 7 | 7 | | relating to the release of a motor vehicle accident report. |

| 8 | 8 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 9 | 9 | | SECTION 1. Section 550.065, Transportation Code, is amended |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | by adding Subsections (c-1) and (c-2) to read as follows: |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | (c-1) Except as provided by Subsection (c-2), the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | department or the governmental entity must redact the following |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | information before releasing the information under Subsection |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | (c)(4): |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | (1) the driver's license number, date of birth, and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | address of any person involved in the accident; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | (2) the license plate number and vehicle |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | identification number of any vehicle involved in the accident. |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | (c-2) Subsection (c-1) does not apply to information |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | released to: |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | (1) a person who is involved in the accident or a legal |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | guardian of that person if the person is younger than 18 years of |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | age; |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | (2) a person who has established financial |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | responsibility for a vehicle involved in the accident in a manner |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | described by Section 601.051, including a policyholder of a motor |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | vehicle liability insurance policy covering the vehicle; |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | (3) an insurance company that issued a motor vehicle |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | liability insurance policy covering a vehicle involved in the |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | accident; or |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | (4) an attorney representing a person who is involved |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | in the accident. |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
