7 | 7 | | relating to the oath of a person admitted to practice law in the |

8 | 8 | | State of Texas. |

9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Section 82.037(a), Government Code, is amended |
---|
11 | 11 | | to read as follows: |
---|
12 | 12 | | (a) Each person admitted to practice law shall, before |
---|
13 | 13 | | receiving a license, take an oath that the person will: |
---|
14 | 14 | | (1) support the constitutions of the United States and |
---|
15 | 15 | | this state; |
---|
16 | 16 | | (2) honestly demean oneself [himself] in the practice |
---|
17 | 17 | | of law; [and] |
---|
18 | 18 | | (3) discharge the attorney's duty to the attorney's |
---|
19 | 19 | | [his] client to the best of the attorney's ability; and |
---|
20 | 20 | | (4) conduct oneself with integrity and civility in |
---|
21 | 21 | | dealing and communicating with the court and all parties. |

22 | 22 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
---|
23 | 23 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
---|
24 | 24 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
---|
25 | 25 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
---|
26 | 26 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
