55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to the oath of a person admitted to practice law in the
88 State of Texas.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 82.037(a), Government Code, is amended
1111 to read as follows:
1212 (a) Each person admitted to practice law shall, before
1313 receiving a license, take an oath that the person will:
1414 (1) support the constitutions of the United States and
1515 this state;
1616 (2) honestly demean oneself [himself] in the practice
1717 of law; [and]
1818 (3) discharge the attorney's duty to the attorney's
1919 [his] client to the best of the attorney's ability; and
2020 (4) conduct oneself with integrity and civility in
2121 dealing and communicating with the court and all parties.
2222 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2323 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2424 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2525 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2626 Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
