 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 AN ACT
 relating to the appeal of an order authorizing the administration
 of medication to a patient receiving court-ordered inpatient mental
 health services.
 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 SECTION 1.  Section 574.108(b), Health and Safety Code, is
 amended to read as follows:
 (b)  An order authorizing the administration of medication
 regardless of the refusal of the patient is stayed [effective]
 pending an appeal of the order.
 SECTION 2.  The change in law made by this Act applies only
 to an appeal of an order authorizing the administration of
 medication to a patient receiving court-ordered inpatient mental
 health services that is filed on or after the effective date of this
 Act.  An appeal filed before the effective date of this Act is
 governed by the law in effect when the appeal was filed, and the
 former law is continued in effect for that purpose.
 SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
