| 24 | 6 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 25 | 7 | | SECTION 1. Section 62.102, Government Code, is amended to |
|---|
| 26 | 8 | | read as follows: |
|---|
| 27 | 9 | | Sec. 62.102. GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS FOR JURY SERVICE. A |
|---|
| 28 | 10 | | person is disqualified to serve as a petit juror unless the person: |
|---|
| 29 | 11 | | (1) is at least 18 years of age; |
|---|
| 30 | 12 | | (2) is a citizen of the United States; |
|---|
| 31 | 13 | | (3) is a resident [citizen] of this state and of the |
|---|
| 32 | 14 | | county in which the person is to serve as a juror; |
|---|
| 33 | 15 | | (4) [(3)] is qualified under the constitution and laws |
|---|
| 34 | 16 | | to vote in the county in which the person is to serve as a juror; |
|---|
| 35 | 17 | | (5) [(4)] is of sound mind and good moral character; |
|---|
| 36 | 18 | | (6) [(5)] is able to read and write; |
|---|
| 37 | 19 | | (7) [(6)] has not served as a petit juror for six days |
|---|
| 38 | 20 | | during the preceding three months in the county court or during the |
|---|
| 39 | 21 | | preceding six months in the district court; |
|---|
| 40 | 22 | | (8) [(7)] has not been convicted of misdemeanor theft |
|---|
| 41 | 23 | | or a felony; and |
|---|
| 42 | 24 | | (9) [(8)] is not under indictment or other legal |
|---|
| 43 | 25 | | accusation for misdemeanor theft or a felony. |

| 44 | 26 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
