9- A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
104 AN ACT
115 relating to the qualifications for a coronal polishing certificate.
126 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
137 SECTION 1. Section 265.006(b), Occupations Code, is amended
148 to read as follows:
159 (b) To qualify for a coronal polishing certificate, an
1610 applicant must have at least two years' experience as a dental
1711 assistant and:
1812 (1) have successfully completed at least eight hours
1913 of clinical and didactic education in coronal polishing taken
2014 through a dental school, dental hygiene school, or dental assisting
2115 program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the
2216 American Dental Association and approved by the board. The
2317 education must include [that includes] courses on:
2418 (A) oral anatomy and tooth morphology relating to
2519 retention of plaque and stain;
2620 (B) indications, contraindications, and
2721 complications of coronal polishing;
2822 (C) principles of coronal polishing, including
2923 armamentarium, operator and patient positioning, technique, and
3024 polishing agents;
3125 (D) infection control procedures;
3226 (E) polishing coronal surfaces of teeth; and
3327 (F) jurisprudence relating to coronal polishing;
3428 or
3529 (2) present proof to the board that the assistant has:
3630 (A) graduated from a dental assisting program
3731 accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the
3832 American Dental Association and approved by the board that includes
3933 specific didactic course work and clinical training in coronal
4034 polishing; or
4135 (B) received certification of completion of
4236 requirements specified by the Dental Assisting National Board and
4337 approved by the board.
4438 SECTION 2. As soon as practicable after the effective date
4539 of this Act, the State Board of Dental Examiners shall adopt rules
4640 necessary to implement Section 265.006(b), Occupations Code, as
4741 amended by this Act.
4842 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
