| 7 | 7 | | relating to the content of a temporary license issued by the |

| 8 | 8 | | Department of Public Safety of the State of Texas. |

| 9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Section 521.124, Transportation Code, is amended |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | by adding Subsection (c) to read as follows: |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | (c) A temporary license issued to an applicant must include: |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | (1) the applicant's name; |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | (2) the date of issuance of the temporary license; |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | (3) a statement indicating either that the applicant |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | submitted a voter registration application or declined to register |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | to vote; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | (4) the following statement: "If you submitted a voter |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | registration application at the time you applied for a driver's |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | license, this temporary license is proof of your application for |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | voter registration. Retain it until you receive a voter |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | registration certificate from your local voter registrar. If you |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | do not receive a voter registration certificate, you may use this as |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | proof that you submitted a timely voter registration application." |

| 25 | 25 | | SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | to a temporary license issued by the Department of Public Safety of |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | the State of Texas on or after the effective date of this Act. A |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | temporary license issued by the Department of Public Safety of the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | State of Texas before the effective date of this Act is governed by |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | the law in effect at the time of issuance and the former law is |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | continued in effect for that purpose. |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
