55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to the content of a temporary license issued by the
88 Department of Public Safety of the State of Texas.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 521.124, Transportation Code, is amended
1111 by adding Subsection (c) to read as follows:
1212 (c) A temporary license issued to an applicant must include:
1313 (1) the applicant's name;
1414 (2) the date of issuance of the temporary license;
1515 (3) a statement indicating either that the applicant
1616 submitted a voter registration application or declined to register
1717 to vote; and
1818 (4) the following statement: "If you submitted a voter
1919 registration application at the time you applied for a driver's
2020 license, this temporary license is proof of your application for
2121 voter registration. Retain it until you receive a voter
2222 registration certificate from your local voter registrar. If you
2323 do not receive a voter registration certificate, you may use this as
2424 proof that you submitted a timely voter registration application."
2525 SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only
2626 to a temporary license issued by the Department of Public Safety of
2727 the State of Texas on or after the effective date of this Act. A
2828 temporary license issued by the Department of Public Safety of the
2929 State of Texas before the effective date of this Act is governed by
3030 the law in effect at the time of issuance and the former law is
3131 continued in effect for that purpose.
3232 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
