77 relating to the early voting period in a runoff election.
88 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Sections 85.001(b) and (e), Election Code, are
1010 amended to read as follows:
1111 (b) For a [special] runoff election [for the office of state
1212 senator or state representative or for a runoff primary election],
1313 the period begins on the 10th day before election day.
1414 (e) For an election held on the uniform election date in May
1515 [and any resulting runoff election], the period for early voting by
1616 personal appearance begins on the 12th day before election day and
1717 continues through the fourth day before election day.
1818 SECTION 2. Section 85.005, Election Code, is amended by
1919 adding Subsection (e) to read as follows:
2020 (e) Notwithstanding Subsections (a), (b), and (d), in a
2121 runoff election, early voting by personal appearance at the main
2222 early voting polling place shall be conducted for at least 12 hours
2323 on at least two weekdays.
2424 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2525 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2626 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2727 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2828 Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
