| 8 | 8 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 9 | 9 | | SECTION 1. Sections 85.001(b) and (e), Election Code, are |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | amended to read as follows: |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | (b) For a [special] runoff election [for the office of state |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | senator or state representative or for a runoff primary election], |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | the period begins on the 10th day before election day. |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | (e) For an election held on the uniform election date in May |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | [and any resulting runoff election], the period for early voting by |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | personal appearance begins on the 12th day before election day and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | continues through the fourth day before election day. |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | SECTION 2. Section 85.005, Election Code, is amended by |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | adding Subsection (e) to read as follows: |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | (e) Notwithstanding Subsections (a), (b), and (d), in a |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | runoff election, early voting by personal appearance at the main |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | early voting polling place shall be conducted for at least 12 hours |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | on at least two weekdays. |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
|---|
