 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 AN ACT
 relating to the early voting period in a runoff election.
 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 SECTION 1.  Sections 85.001(b) and (e), Election Code, are
 amended to read as follows:
 (b)  For a [special] runoff election [for the office of state
 senator or state representative or for a runoff primary election],
 the period begins on the 10th day before election day.
 (e)  For an election held on the uniform election date in May
 [and any resulting runoff election], the period for early voting by
 personal appearance begins on the 12th day before election day and
 continues through the fourth day before election day.
 SECTION 2.  Section 85.005, Election Code, is amended by
 adding Subsection (e) to read as follows:
 (e)  Notwithstanding Subsections (a), (b), and (d), in a
 runoff election, early voting by personal appearance at the main
 early voting polling place shall be conducted for at least 12 hours
 on at least two weekdays.
 SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
 Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
