55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to providing a parent of a public school student with
88 certain required notices in the parent's native language.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 39.052, Education Code, is amended by
1111 adding Subsection (e-1) to read as follows:
1212 (e-1) The notification to parents of students enrolled in
1313 the district required under Subsection (e) must be written in a
1414 parent's native language if that language is a second language for
1515 at least 10 percent of the students attending the school campus in
1616 which the parent's child is enrolled.
1717 SECTION 2. Section 39.303, Education Code, is amended by
1818 adding Subsection (c) to read as follows:
1919 (c) The written notice to a student's parent or other person
2020 standing in parental relationship required under Subsection (a)
2121 must be written in the native language of the parent or person
2222 standing in parental relationship if that language is a second
2323 language for at least 10 percent of students attending the school
2424 campus in which the student is enrolled.
2525 SECTION 3. Section 39.305, Education Code, is amended by
2626 adding Subsection (e) to read as follows:
2727 (e) The information required to be given to the parent or
2828 other person standing in parental relationship of each student
2929 under Subsection (c) must be written in the native language of the
3030 parent or person standing in parental relationship if that language
3131 is a second language for at least 10 percent of students attending
3232 the school campus in which the student is enrolled.
3333 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
