| 12 | 6 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 13 | 7 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 662, Government Code, is |
|---|
| 14 | 8 | | amended by adding Section 662.061 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 15 | 9 | | Sec. 662.061. LUNG CANCER AWARENESS DAY. (a) May 24 is Lung |
|---|
| 16 | 10 | | Cancer Awareness Day to encourage residents of this state to learn |
|---|
| 17 | 11 | | about: |
|---|
| 18 | 12 | | (1) the prevalence of lung cancer; |
|---|
| 19 | 13 | | (2) the statistical risks of developing the disease, |
|---|
| 20 | 14 | | including behaviors that increase the risk of developing the |
|---|
| 21 | 15 | | disease; |
|---|
| 22 | 16 | | (3) ways to increase early diagnosis and treatment of |
|---|
| 23 | 17 | | the disease; and |
|---|
| 24 | 18 | | (4) ways to reduce the prevalence of the disease. |
|---|
| 25 | 19 | | (b) Lung Cancer Awareness Day shall be regularly observed by |
|---|
| 26 | 20 | | appropriate programs and activities. |
|---|
| 27 | 21 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 28 | 22 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 29 | 23 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 30 | 24 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 31 | 25 | | Act takes effect on the 91st day after the last day of the |
|---|
| 32 | 26 | | legislative session. |
