104 AN ACT
115 relating to the designation of Westside Drive in El Paso County as
126 the Don Juan de Onate Trail.
137 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
148 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 442, Government Code, is
159 amended by adding Section 442.030 to read as follows:
1610 Sec. 442.030. DON JUAN DE ONATE TRAIL AS TEXAS HISTORIC
1711 HIGHWAY. (a) The commission shall cooperate with the Texas
1812 Department of Transportation to designate, interpret, and market
1913 Westside Drive in El Paso County as the Don Juan de Onate Trail and a
2014 Texas historic highway.
2115 (b) To supplement revenue available for the purposes under
2216 Subsection (a), the commission and the Texas Department of
2317 Transportation may pursue federal funds dedicated to highway
2418 enhancement.
2519 (c) A designation of Westside Drive in El Paso County as the
2620 Don Juan de Onate Trail and a Texas historic highway may not be
2721 construed as a designation under the National Historic Preservation
2822 Act (16 U.S.C. Section 470 et seq.).
2923 (d) The Texas Department of Transportation is not required
3024 to design, construct, or erect a marker under this section unless a
3125 grant or donation of funds is made to the department to cover the
3226 cost of the design, construction, and erection of the marker. Money
3327 received to cover the cost of the marker shall be deposited to the
3428 credit of the state highway fund.
3529 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
