| 13 | 7 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 14 | 8 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 442, Government Code, is |
|---|
| 15 | 9 | | amended by adding Section 442.030 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 16 | 10 | | Sec. 442.030. DON JUAN DE ONATE TRAIL AS TEXAS HISTORIC |
|---|
| 17 | 11 | | HIGHWAY. (a) The commission shall cooperate with the Texas |
|---|
| 18 | 12 | | Department of Transportation to designate, interpret, and market |
|---|
| 19 | 13 | | Westside Drive in El Paso County as the Don Juan de Onate Trail and a |
|---|
| 20 | 14 | | Texas historic highway. |
|---|
| 21 | 15 | | (b) To supplement revenue available for the purposes under |
|---|
| 22 | 16 | | Subsection (a), the commission and the Texas Department of |
|---|
| 23 | 17 | | Transportation may pursue federal funds dedicated to highway |
|---|
| 24 | 18 | | enhancement. |
|---|
| 25 | 19 | | (c) A designation of Westside Drive in El Paso County as the |
|---|
| 26 | 20 | | Don Juan de Onate Trail and a Texas historic highway may not be |
|---|
| 27 | 21 | | construed as a designation under the National Historic Preservation |
|---|
| 28 | 22 | | Act (16 U.S.C. Section 470 et seq.). |
|---|
| 29 | 23 | | (d) The Texas Department of Transportation is not required |
|---|
| 30 | 24 | | to design, construct, or erect a marker under this section unless a |
|---|
| 31 | 25 | | grant or donation of funds is made to the department to cover the |
|---|
| 32 | 26 | | cost of the design, construction, and erection of the marker. Money |
|---|
| 33 | 27 | | received to cover the cost of the marker shall be deposited to the |
|---|
| 34 | 28 | | credit of the state highway fund. |
|---|
| 35 | 29 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
