 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 AN ACT
 relating to permitting a residency requirement for police officers
 in certain municipalities.
 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 SECTION 1.  Section 150.021(b), Local Government Code, is
 amended to read as follows:
 (b)  The prohibition under Subsection (a) does not apply to
 residency requirements for:
 (1)  candidates for or holders of a municipal office,
 including a position on the governing body of the municipality;
 [or]
 (2)  municipal department heads appointed by the mayor
 or governing body of the municipality; or
 (3)  peace officers as defined by Article 2.12, Code of
 Criminal Procedure, or other law, employed by a municipality with a
 population of two million or more.
 SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
 Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
