| 9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 397.0125(a), Transportation Code, is | |
| 11 | 11 | amended to read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | (a) In addition to the penalty provided by Section 397.012, | |
| 13 | 13 | a person who operates an automotive wrecking and salvage yard in | |
| 14 | 14 | violation of this chapter is liable for a civil penalty of not less | |
| 15 | - | than $500 or more than $ | |
| 15 | + | than $500 or more than $2,500 [$1,000] for each violation. A | |
| 16 | 16 | separate penalty may be imposed for each day a continuing violation | |
| 17 | 17 | occurs. | |
| 18 | 18 | SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only | |
| 19 | 19 | to a violation of Chapter 397, Transportation Code, that occurs on | |
| 20 | 20 | or after the effective date of this Act. A violation of that | |
| 21 | 21 | chapter that occurred before the effective date of this Act is | |
| 22 | 22 | governed by the law in effect when the violation occurred, and the | |
| 23 | 23 | former law is continued in effect for that purpose. | |
| 24 | 24 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
