9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Article 45.054(j), Code of Criminal Procedure, | |
11 | 11 | is amended to read as follows: | |
12 | 12 | (j) Notwithstanding any other law, a [A] county, justice, or | |
13 | 13 | municipal court shall [may] waive or reduce a fine, fee, or court | |
14 | 14 | cost imposed under this article if the court finds that payment of | |
15 | 15 | the fine, fee, or court cost would cause financial hardship. | |
16 | 16 | SECTION 2. Article 45.054(j), Code of Criminal Procedure, | |
17 | 17 | as amended by this Act, applies to a proceeding for failure to | |
18 | 18 | attend school that occurs on or after the effective date of this Act | |
19 | 19 | regardless of whether the offense that is the subject of the | |
20 | 20 | proceeding was committed before, on, or after the effective date of | |
21 | 21 | this Act. | |
22 | 22 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
