55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to the waiver of fines, fees, and court costs imposed on a
88 student convicted of truancy.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Article 45.054(j), Code of Criminal Procedure,
1111 is amended to read as follows:
1212 (j) Notwithstanding any other law, a [A] county, justice, or
1313 municipal court shall [may] waive or reduce a fine, fee, or court
1414 cost imposed under this article if the court finds that payment of
1515 the fine, fee, or court cost would cause financial hardship.
1616 SECTION 2. Article 45.054(j), Code of Criminal Procedure,
1717 as amended by this Act, applies to a proceeding for failure to
1818 attend school that occurs on or after the effective date of this Act
1919 regardless of whether the offense that is the subject of the
2020 proceeding was committed before, on, or after the effective date of
2121 this Act.
2222 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
