 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 AN ACT
 relating to the waiver of fines, fees, and court costs imposed on a
 student convicted of truancy.
 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 SECTION 1.  Article 45.054(j), Code of Criminal Procedure,
 is amended to read as follows:
 (j)  Notwithstanding any other law, a [A] county, justice, or
 municipal court shall [may] waive or reduce a fine, fee, or court
 cost imposed under this article if the court finds that payment of
 the fine, fee, or court cost would cause financial hardship.
 SECTION 2.  Article 45.054(j), Code of Criminal Procedure,
 as amended by this Act, applies to a proceeding for failure to
 attend school that occurs on or after the effective date of this Act
 regardless of whether the offense that is the subject of the
 proceeding was committed before, on, or after the effective date of
 this Act.
 SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
