55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to creating a criminal offense for a candidate for public
88 office who misrepresents the candidate's residency.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 141, Election Code, is
1111 amended by adding Section 141.005 to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 141.005. UNLAWFUL MISREPRESENTATION OF RESIDENCY
1313 STATUS. (a) A person commits an offense if the person knowingly or
1414 intentionally misrepresents the person's residency to appear
1515 eligible to be a candidate for, or elected or appointed to, a public
1616 elective office in this state.
1717 (b) An offense under this section is a felony of the third
1818 degree.
1919 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
