 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 AN ACT
 relating to creating a criminal offense for a candidate for public
 office who misrepresents the candidate's residency.
 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 SECTION 1.  Subchapter A, Chapter 141, Election Code, is
 amended by adding Section 141.005 to read as follows:
 Sec. 141.005.  UNLAWFUL MISREPRESENTATION OF RESIDENCY
 STATUS. (a) A person commits an offense if the person knowingly or
 intentionally misrepresents the person's residency to appear
 eligible to be a candidate for, or elected or appointed to, a public
 elective office in this state.
 (b)  An offense under this section is a felony of the third
 degree.
 SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
