13 | 7 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

14 | 8 | | SECTION 1. Section 1701.316, Occupations Code, is amended |
---|
15 | 9 | | by adding Subsection (c) to read as follows: |
---|
16 | 10 | | (c) The commission shall reactivate a peace officer's |
---|
17 | 11 | | license after a break in employment if the former license holder: |
---|
18 | 12 | | (1) completed at least 10 years of full-time service |
---|
19 | 13 | | as a peace officer in good standing before the break in employment; |
---|
20 | 14 | | (2) meets current licensing standards; |
---|
21 | 15 | | (3) successfully completes: |
---|
22 | 16 | | (A) an online or in-person supplemental peace |
---|
23 | 17 | | officer course of not more than 120 hours; and |
---|
24 | 18 | | (B) other in-person training requirements of not |
---|
25 | 19 | | more than 40 hours; |
---|
26 | 20 | | (4) passes a peace officer reactivation examination; |
---|
27 | 21 | | (5) files an application; and |
---|
28 | 22 | | (6) pays any required fees. |
---|
29 | 23 | | SECTION 2. Section 1701.316(c), Occupations Code, as added |
---|
30 | 24 | | by this Act, applies only to a license for which an application for |
---|
31 | 25 | | reactivation of the license is filed on or after the effective date |
---|
32 | 26 | | of this Act. A license for which an application for reactivation of |
---|
33 | 27 | | the license is filed before the effective date of this Act is |
---|
34 | 28 | | governed by the law in effect on the date the application was filed, |
---|
35 | 29 | | and the former law is continued in effect for that purpose. |
---|
36 | 30 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
