114 AN ACT
125 relating to the qualifications for appointment as a veterans county
136 service officer.
147 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
158 SECTION 1. Section 434.033(b), Government Code, is amended
169 to read as follows:
1710 (b) To be appointed as an officer a person must:
1811 (1) be qualified by education and training for the
1912 duties of the office;
2013 (2) be experienced in the law, regulations, and
2114 rulings of the United States Department of Veterans Affairs
2215 controlling cases that come before the commission; and
2316 (3) have the service experience specified by
2417 Subsection (c) or be:
2518 (A) a widowed Gold Star Mother or unremarried
2619 widow of a serviceman or veteran whose death resulted from service;
2720 [or]
2821 (B) the spouse of a disabled veteran who has a
2922 total disability rating based either on having a service-connected
3023 disability with a disability rating of 100 percent or on individual
3124 unemployability; or
3225 (C) the spouse of a retired veteran who served a
3326 minimum of 20 years on active duty.
3427 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3528 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3629 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3730 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3831 Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
