H.C.R. No. 47
HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Terry Simpson, county judge of San
Patricio County, has been named the 2014 Newsmaker of the Year by
the Corpus Christi Caller-Times; and
WHEREAS, After graduating from Sinton High School in 1970,
Terry Simpson began a career in law enforcement as a deputy sheriff
and a dispatcher for the San Patricio County Sheriff's Office; he
joined the Sinton Police Department as a patrol officer in 1977 and
then later resumed his service with the sheriff's department; and
WHEREAS, Judge Simpson entered politics in 1997 when the
commissioners court appointed him justice of the peace for San
Patricio County Precinct 1, and he was elected to that office by
area voters two years later; he went on to win the seat for county
judge in 2002, and he has since been victorious in each subsequent
bid for reelection; and
WHEREAS, Over the course of his tenure, Judge Simpson has
made exceptional efforts toward the development of San Patricio
County, prioritizing regional road projects and securing a seat for
the county on the Corpus Christi Port Commission; he has further
distinguished himself as chair of the Corpus Christi Metropolitan
Planning Organization board and as president of the County Judges
and Commissioners Association of Texas; in recognition of his
outstanding work, the Texas Department of Transportation presented
him with the prestigious Road Hand Award; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed public official has set high standards
of leadership throughout a notable career of service, and his
impressive achievements have earned him the deep respect and
appreciation of his fellow Texans; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the 84th Legislature of the State of Texas
hereby congratulate the Honorable Terry Simpson on his selection as
the 2014 Newsmaker of the Year by the Corpus Christi Caller-Times
and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be
it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Judge Simpson as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
