10	4		HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
11	5		WHEREAS, Our nation is fortunate to have sons and daughters
12	6		whose love of country is such that they are willing to risk their
13	7		lives in its defense, and they are truly deserving of the utmost
14	8		respect and gratitude; and
15	9		WHEREAS, Legions of Americans stepped forward to serve their
16	10		nation in the aftermath of September 11, 2001, and their unwavering
17	11		resolve to combat terrorism in the Global War on Terror helped
18	12		ensure the safety of millions of people back home and around the
19	13		globe; and
20	14		WHEREAS, Almost 7,000 U.S. service members, including 600
21	15		Texans, have died in the war to date, and countless more American
22	16		troops have been wounded; sharing in those sacrifices have been
23	17		their families and friends; and
24	18		WHEREAS, Under Chapter 443, Government Code, and rules of the
25	19		State Preservation Board, a portion of the north Capitol grounds is
26	20		available for new monuments, subject to legislative approval,
27	21		specified procedural requirements, the provision of funding from
28	22		private donors, conformity to certain size and design limitations
29	23		and parameters, and completion on a timely basis; and
30	24		WHEREAS, Members of the Texas Legislature find that a
31	25		commemorative monument recognizing those Texans who served during
32	26		the Global War on Terror would be a worthy addition to the Capitol
33	27		grounds; now, therefore, be it
34	28		RESOLVED, That the 84th Legislature of the State of Texas
35	29		hereby authorize the State Preservation Board, subject to state law
36	30		and rules of the board, to approve and permit the construction of a
37	31		monument at the state Capitol Complex, at a site outside the
38	32		historic Capitol grounds, honoring Texans who served during the
39	33		Global War on Terror as part of the U.S. armed forces and their
40	34		families; and, be it further
41	35		RESOLVED, That the Texas secretary of state forward an
42	36		official copy of this resolution to the executive director of the
43	37		State Preservation Board.
