104 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
115 WHEREAS, Our nation is fortunate to have sons and daughters
126 whose love of country is such that they are willing to risk their
137 lives in its defense, and they are truly deserving of the utmost
148 respect and gratitude; and
159 WHEREAS, Legions of Americans stepped forward to serve their
1610 nation in the aftermath of September 11, 2001, and their unwavering
1711 resolve to combat terrorism in the Global War on Terror helped
1812 ensure the safety of millions of people back home and around the
1913 globe; and
2014 WHEREAS, Almost 7,000 U.S. service members, including 600
2115 Texans, have died in the war to date, and countless more American
2216 troops have been wounded; sharing in those sacrifices have been
2317 their families and friends; and
2418 WHEREAS, Under Chapter 443, Government Code, and rules of the
2519 State Preservation Board, a portion of the north Capitol grounds is
2620 available for new monuments, subject to legislative approval,
2721 specified procedural requirements, the provision of funding from
2822 private donors, conformity to certain size and design limitations
2923 and parameters, and completion on a timely basis; and
3024 WHEREAS, Members of the Texas Legislature find that a
3125 commemorative monument recognizing those Texans who served during
3226 the Global War on Terror would be a worthy addition to the Capitol
3327 grounds; now, therefore, be it
3428 RESOLVED, That the 84th Legislature of the State of Texas
3529 hereby authorize the State Preservation Board, subject to state law
3630 and rules of the board, to approve and permit the construction of a
3731 monument at the state Capitol Complex, at a site outside the
3832 historic Capitol grounds, honoring Texans who served during the
3933 Global War on Terror as part of the U.S. armed forces and their
4034 families; and, be it further
4135 RESOLVED, That the Texas secretary of state forward an
4236 official copy of this resolution to the executive director of the
4337 State Preservation Board.
