 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Citizens of Waco are mourning the loss of Pat Beard,
 who passed away on November 30, 2013, at the age of 88; and
 WHEREAS, Born in Waco on June 22, 1925, to H. S. and Irna
 Beard, Pat Beard attended Waco High School and served in the
 U.S. Army during World War II; he went on to earn his bachelor's
 degree from Baylor University in 1947 and his juris doctorate from
 Harvard Law School in 1950; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Beard embarked on his distinguished legal career
 in 1952, when he began practicing law with his father;
 subsequently, he partnered with David Kultgen to found Beard &
 Kultgen, and the firm later merged with another partnership to form
 Beard, Kultgen, Brophy, Bostwick, Dickson, and Squires; known as a
 brilliant attorney, Mr. Beard frequently championed the rights of
 the underprivileged and disenfranchised in his more than five
 decades practicing law; and
 WHEREAS, Outside of his professional ventures, Mr. Beard
 generously donated his time and expertise to a number of nonprofit
 organizations; he was a 33rd degree Scottish Rite Mason and served
 on the board of the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children; he
 was also a staunch Democrat and supported many local and national
 candidates; in his leisure time, he enjoyed playing tennis with
 friends; and
 WHEREAS, A devoted family man, Mr. Beard shared nearly five
 decades with his wife, the former Martha Sue George, whom he married
 in 1953 after meeting her on a blind date in Washington, D.C.;
 together the couple raised five beloved children, Carey, Mike,
 Bramlet, Joe, and Bob; and
 WHEREAS, Pat Beard brought to his many endeavors compassion,
 unfailing integrity, and generosity of spirit, and his legacy of
 good works remains to inspire all those who were privileged to share
 in the richness of his life; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Pat Beard and extend
 sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his daughter,
 Carey Casey, and her husband, Don; to his sons, Mike Beard, Bramlet
 Beard and his wife, Michelle, Joe Beard and his wife, Sherry, and
 Bob Beard and his wife, Laura; to his grandchildren and his
 great-grandchild; to his brothers, Bramlet and Frank Beard; and to
 his other relatives and numerous friends; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Pat Beard.
