| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Born in Benavides on March 27, 1936, to Lazaro and |

| 9 | 10 | | Nicolasa Chapa, the former Maria Elena Chapa graduated from |

| 10 | 11 | | Benavides High School in 1955 and went on to earn both a bachelor's |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | degree and a master's degree in education from Texas A&I |

| 12 | 13 | | University; and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Arnoldo Valerio Alaniz was born on December 30, |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | 1931, and he also graduated from Benavides High School, where he was |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | an all-district football player; following his service with the |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | United States Army during the Korean War, he attended Texas A&I, |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | receiving a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in math; and |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, The couple married in 1956 and shared 35 years |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | together; they were blessed with three children, Arnoldo, Jaime, |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | and Norma, and their family eventually grew to include five |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | grandchildren, Amanda, Arnoldo, Matthew, Isabella, and Fabian, as |

| 22 | 23 | | well as a great-granddaughter, Katherine; and |

| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Prominent members of their community, Mr. and |

| 24 | 25 | | Mrs. Alaniz enjoyed long and rewarding careers with the Benavides |

| 25 | 26 | | Independent School District; Mrs. Alaniz taught for more than three |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | decades, and Mr. Alaniz worked as a teacher and a principal for 37 |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | years; he also served as president of the Texas State Teachers |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | Association; and |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Alaniz further distinguished herself as a |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | member of the Benavides City Council for 19 years; devoted to her |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | faith, she belonged to the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, and |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | she and her husband were both valued parishioners of Santa Rosa de |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | Lima Catholic Church; and |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Although Mrs. Alaniz passed away on December 27, |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | 2014, and Mr. Alaniz died on February 3, 1991, their efforts in |

| 36 | 37 | | behalf of their students and the city that they loved will continue |
|---|
| 37 | 38 | | to resonate for years to come; now, therefore, be it |
