H.R. No. 1229
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Food Bank of Corpus Christi has provided a
valuable service to area residents for more than three decades; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1982, the Food Bank of Corpus Christi
works to reduce hunger in the Coastal Bend region by providing meals
to those in need and offering education on healthy eating
practices; it serves as a clearinghouse for donated and collected
food, which it distributes through a network of 150 partner
agencies and pantries to approximately 7,800 people in 11 South
Texas counties each week; and
WHEREAS, This nonprofit organization, which is affiliated
with Feeding America, further serves Corpus Christi and the
surrounding area with a variety of useful programs, including Kids'
Café, the Mobile Pantry, Kids' Backpack, and the award-winning
Diabetes Hands On Program and Nutrition Education Mobile Pantry;
along with the Health and Human Services Commission and the Texas
Food Bank Network, the food bank also operates an outreach program
designed to help qualified applicants complete the paperwork for
HHSC services; and
WHEREAS, Volunteers are the driving force behind the Food
Bank of Corpus Christi; ably led by executive director Beatriz
Hanson and 40 staff members, civic-minded citizens contribute over
3,000 hours each month by sorting goods, working in the community
garden, assisting with administrative functions, and more; and
WHEREAS, With the worthy goal of alleviating hunger, the Food
Bank of Corpus Christi makes immeasurable contributions to the
people of the Coastal Bend, and it indeed merits special
recognition for its service; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
Legislature hereby honor the Food Bank of Corpus Christi and extend
to all those associated with the organization sincere best wishes
for the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the Food Bank of Corpus Christi as an expression of
high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
