| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The first known settler in what was originally |

| 8 | 9 | | called Grapevine Springs was James Parish, who moved to the area in |

| 9 | 10 | | the mid-1800s; in time, a farming community developed, and its post |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | office took the name Gibbs in honor of Barnett Gibbs, a Dallas |

| 11 | 12 | | lawyer, civic leader, politician, and local real estate investor; |

| 12 | 13 | | strongly supported by the state's farmers, Mr. Gibbs served in the |

| 13 | 14 | | 1880s as lieutenant governor; the young town acquired rail |

| 14 | 15 | | connections in 1888 with the arrival of the St. Louis, Arkansas and |

| 15 | 16 | | Texas Railway, and in 1890, the station there was named Coppell, |

| 16 | 17 | | probably after New York financier George Coppell, who had provided |

| 17 | 18 | | crucial assistance to the rail line; two years later, the town also |

| 18 | 19 | | adopted the name Coppell; the city incorporated in 1955; and |

| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Originally an agricultural center, Coppell today |

| 20 | 21 | | boasts more than 1,000 businesses and is a thriving residential |

| 21 | 22 | | community with excellent services, an exemplary parks and |

| 22 | 23 | | recreation system, and safe neighborhoods; over 11,000 students are |

| 23 | 24 | | enrolled in the Coppell Independent School District, which is home |

| 24 | 25 | | to multiple National Blue Ribbon campuses; the city benefits from |

| 25 | 26 | | its central location at the heart of the Dallas/Fort Worth |

| 26 | 27 | | Metroplex, only five miles from DFW International Airport and 30 |

| 27 | 28 | | minutes from both Dallas and Fort Worth; in 2012 and again in 2014, |
