| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Court Appointed Special Advocates of the Coastal |

| 6 | 7 | | Bend is sponsoring the 10th annual CASA Superhero Run on May 2, |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, CASA of the Coastal Bend is a nonprofit organization |

| 9 | 10 | | that relies on volunteers to act as advocates for children in the |

| 10 | 11 | | court and protective services systems; volunteers are trained to |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | gather information and make recommendations that assist judges in |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | arriving at decisions concerning a child's well-being, and they |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | remain focused on each child until he or she is placed in a safe and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | permanent home; often, CASA advocates are a rare source of |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | stability in the lives of the young people they assist; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Each year since 2006, members of surrounding Coastal |

| 17 | 18 | | Bend communities and CASA's dedicated volunteers have donned their |

| 18 | 19 | | favorite superhero costumes and apparel for the annual Superhero |

| 19 | 20 | | Run; the race features a 5K run as well as a two-mile walk and a Kids |

| 20 | 21 | | 1K for younger participants; proceeds raised during the 10th annual |

| 21 | 22 | | event will go toward the recruitment and training of new CASA |

| 22 | 23 | | volunteers, and the funds will also support the organization's |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | ongoing mission to give a voice to abused and neglected children in |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | Nueces, San Patricio, and Aransas Counties; and |

| 25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Through the compassion, dedication, and hard work of |

| 26 | 27 | | everyone involved with the group, CASA of the Coastal Bend has made |

| 27 | 28 | | a lasting impact in the lives of children and families in the area, |

| 28 | 29 | | and it is indeed fitting to recognize the organization on the |

| 29 | 30 | | occasion of this worthwhile event; now, therefore, be it |

| 30 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 31 | 32 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 10th annual CASA Superhero Run |

| 32 | 33 | | and extend to all those associated with the event sincere best |
