H.R. No. 1266 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Court Appointed Special Advocates of the Coastal Bend is sponsoring the 10th annual CASA Superhero Run on May 2, 2015; and WHEREAS, CASA of the Coastal Bend is a nonprofit organization that relies on volunteers to act as advocates for children in the court and protective services systems; volunteers are trained to gather information and make recommendations that assist judges in arriving at decisions concerning a child's well-being, and they remain focused on each child until he or she is placed in a safe and permanent home; often, CASA advocates are a rare source of stability in the lives of the young people they assist; and WHEREAS, Each year since 2006, members of surrounding Coastal Bend communities and CASA's dedicated volunteers have donned their favorite superhero costumes and apparel for the annual Superhero Run; the race features a 5K run as well as a two-mile walk and a Kids 1K for younger participants; proceeds raised during the 10th annual event will go toward the recruitment and training of new CASA volunteers, and the funds will also support the organization's ongoing mission to give a voice to abused and neglected children in Nueces, San Patricio, and Aransas Counties; and WHEREAS, Through the compassion, dedication, and hard work of everyone involved with the group, CASA of the Coastal Bend has made a lasting impact in the lives of children and families in the area, and it is indeed fitting to recognize the organization on the occasion of this worthwhile event; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas Legislature hereby commemorate the 10th annual CASA Superhero Run and extend to all those associated with the event sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for CASA of the Coastal Bend as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
