 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Tristan Salinas of La Feria won the 27th annual Rio
 Grande Valley Regional Spelling Bee in March 2015, to the great
 delight of his family and friends; and
 WHEREAS, More than 50 students from area elementary and
 middle schools competed in the spelling bee, and Tristan bested
 each of his opponents through 13 rounds, ultimately claiming first
 place by correctly spelling the word "illegible"; with his
 impressive victory, he earned a championship trophy as well as the
 right to represent the Rio Grande Valley at the 88th Annual Scripps
 National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., in May; and
 WHEREAS, Currently a seventh-grader at W. B. Green Junior
 High School, Tristan advanced to the first round of the regional
 competition in 2014; he prepared for this year's event by studying
 more than 1,000 flash cards, dedicating much of his free time to the
 task; and
 WHEREAS, Tristan Salinas has demonstrated exceptional
 ability and determination in pursuing his goals, and he is a source
 of great pride for his loved ones, school, and community; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Tristan Salinas on winning the Rio
 Grande Valley Regional Spelling Bee and qualifying for the Scripps
 National Spelling Bee and extend to him sincere best wishes for the
 future; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Tristan Salinas as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
