5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Texas colleges and universities contribute |

6 | 7 | | immeasurably to the future of the Lone Star State, and those |

8 | 9 | | institutions of higher education are indeed deserving of |

10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Dr. William Serrata was named president of El Paso |

11 | 12 | | Community College in 2012, and during his outstanding tenure at the |
---|
12 | 13 | | school, he has worked diligently to spur enrollment growth while |
---|
13 | 14 | | increasing student retention, dual credit enrollment, and overall |
---|
14 | 15 | | graduation rates; prior to joining EPCC, he served as vice |
---|
15 | 16 | | president for student affairs and enrollment management at South |
---|
16 | 17 | | Texas College in McAllen; and |
---|
17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, This distinguished administrator holds a master's |
---|
18 | 19 | | degree from The University of Texas at Brownsville, and he |
---|
19 | 20 | | completed his bachelor's degree and doctorate in educational human |
---|
20 | 21 | | resource development at Texas A&M University; Dr. Serrata has |
---|
21 | 22 | | further benefited his profession by serving on the Texas Workforce |
---|
22 | 23 | | Education Leadership Committee as well as the executive committee |
---|
23 | 24 | | for the Texas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions |
---|
24 | 25 | | Officers; active in his community, he is a board member for the |
---|
25 | 26 | | Workforce Solutions Upper Rio Grande and the United Way of El Paso |
---|
26 | 27 | | County, and he has given freely of his time and talents to the El |
---|
27 | 28 | | Paso Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the Greater El Paso Chamber of |
---|
28 | 29 | | Commerce; he has been recognized for his career achievements and |
---|
29 | 30 | | contributions with a number of prestigious accolades, including the |
---|
30 | 31 | | National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development |
---|
31 | 32 | | Excellence Award; and |

32 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Dr. William Serrata has greatly benefited the |

33 | 34 | | students of El Paso Community College, and in so doing, he has |

34 | 35 | | garnered the lasting respect and admiration of countless people |

35 | 36 | | along the way; now, therefore, be it |

36 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

37 | 38 | | Legislature hereby honor Dr. William Serrata for his service as |

38 | 39 | | president of El Paso Community College and extend to him sincere |
