45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Texas colleges and universities contribute
67 immeasurably to the future of the Lone Star State, and those
78 professionals who give generously of their expertise to these vital
89 institutions of higher education are indeed deserving of
910 recognition; and
1011 WHEREAS, Dr. William Serrata was named president of El Paso
1112 Community College in 2012, and during his outstanding tenure at the
1213 school, he has worked diligently to spur enrollment growth while
1314 increasing student retention, dual credit enrollment, and overall
1415 graduation rates; prior to joining EPCC, he served as vice
1516 president for student affairs and enrollment management at South
1617 Texas College in McAllen; and
1718 WHEREAS, This distinguished administrator holds a master's
1819 degree from The University of Texas at Brownsville, and he
1920 completed his bachelor's degree and doctorate in educational human
2021 resource development at Texas A&M University; Dr. Serrata has
2122 further benefited his profession by serving on the Texas Workforce
2223 Education Leadership Committee as well as the executive committee
2324 for the Texas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions
2425 Officers; active in his community, he is a board member for the
2526 Workforce Solutions Upper Rio Grande and the United Way of El Paso
2627 County, and he has given freely of his time and talents to the El
2728 Paso Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the Greater El Paso Chamber of
2829 Commerce; he has been recognized for his career achievements and
2930 contributions with a number of prestigious accolades, including the
3031 National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development
3132 Excellence Award; and
3233 WHEREAS, Dr. William Serrata has greatly benefited the
3334 students of El Paso Community College, and in so doing, he has
3435 garnered the lasting respect and admiration of countless people
3536 along the way; now, therefore, be it
3637 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
3738 Legislature hereby honor Dr. William Serrata for his service as
3839 president of El Paso Community College and extend to him sincere
3940 best wishes for continued success with his important work; and, be
4041 it further
4142 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4243 prepared for Dr. Serrata as an expression of high regard by the
4344 Texas House of Representatives.
