H.R. No. 1306 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Texas colleges and universities contribute immeasurably to the future of the Lone Star State, and those professionals who give generously of their expertise to these vital institutions of higher education are indeed deserving of recognition; and WHEREAS, Dr. William Serrata was named president of El Paso Community College in 2012, and during his outstanding tenure at the school, he has worked diligently to spur enrollment growth while increasing student retention, dual credit enrollment, and overall graduation rates; prior to joining EPCC, he served as vice president for student affairs and enrollment management at South Texas College in McAllen; and WHEREAS, This distinguished administrator holds a master's degree from The University of Texas at Brownsville, and he completed his bachelor's degree and doctorate in educational human resource development at Texas A&M University; Dr. Serrata has further benefited his profession by serving on the Texas Workforce Education Leadership Committee as well as the executive committee for the Texas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers; active in his community, he is a board member for the Workforce Solutions Upper Rio Grande and the United Way of El Paso County, and he has given freely of his time and talents to the El Paso Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the Greater El Paso Chamber of Commerce; he has been recognized for his career achievements and contributions with a number of prestigious accolades, including the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development Excellence Award; and WHEREAS, Dr. William Serrata has greatly benefited the students of El Paso Community College, and in so doing, he has garnered the lasting respect and admiration of countless people along the way; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas Legislature hereby honor Dr. William Serrata for his service as president of El Paso Community College and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success with his important work; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Dr. Serrata as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
