45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the
67 death of John Frederick Gilbert of San Antonio on October 15, 2014,
78 at the age of 88; and
89 WHEREAS, John Gilbert was born in the Republic of Panama to
910 John F. and Susan Hall Gilbert on June 20, 1926, and he attended
1011 school in the Canal Zone; after graduating, he answered his
1112 nation's call to duty and served in the U.S. Navy during World War
1213 II; and
1314 WHEREAS, Following his honorable discharge from the navy in
1415 1946, Mr. Gilbert worked as a civilian employee for the U.S. Air
1516 Force; four years later, he joined the Canal Zone Police Force and
1617 worked his way up through the ranks until retiring as assistant
1718 district police commander at the rank of captain in 1976; that same
1819 year, he moved to San Antonio, where he continued to work for a time
1920 with the Wackenhut Security Company; and
2021 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Gilbert enjoyed the love
2122 and support of his wife, Jacqueline, with whom he shared 59 years,
2223 until her death; they were blessed with five children, John, Steve,
2324 Robert, Michael, and Katie, and Mr. Gilbert later welcomed into his
2425 family 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; and
2526 WHEREAS, During his retirement, Mr. Gilbert and his wife
2627 enjoyed dancing as members of the Alamo Area Square and Round Dance
2728 Association, and they co-chaired the committee which sponsored the
2829 national square and round dance convention in San Antonio; the
2930 couple were active as well in their local Catholic parish;
3031 Mr. Gilbert was also an avid bowler, and he was proud of the fact
3132 that over the course of his life, he bowled two perfect games; and
3233 WHEREAS, John Gilbert was deeply devoted to his family, his
3334 faith, and his country, and he leaves behind a legacy that will long
3435 be treasured by all those who held him dear; now, therefore, be it
3536 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
3637 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of John Frederick
3738 Gilbert and extend sincere condolences to the members of his
3839 family: to his sisters, Mildred Patton and Mary Urey; to his
3940 children, John W. Gilbert and his wife, Sheila, Steve Gilbert and
4041 his wife, Cathie, Robert "Bo" Gilbert and his wife, Andrea, Michael
4142 Gilbert and his wife, Lesa, and Katie Reddout and her husband,
4243 Richard; to his grandchildren, Michael Paul, J. Charley, Kyrie,
4344 Kaitlynn, Christopher, Madison, and Emilie Gilbert, Mary "Mimi"
4445 Fisher and her husband, Felix, Tallon and Cassidy Reddout, and
4546 Megan and Tricia Bontempo; to his great-grandchildren, Kila and
4647 William Fisher, Kyndell, Neveah, and Nathan Gilbert, Jade and
4748 Christian Smith, and Ben Koons; and to his other relatives and
4849 friends; and, be it further
4950 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5051 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
5152 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of John
5253 Frederick Gilbert.
