| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Mike Hughes is retiring from his position as head |

| 6 | 7 | | football coach and athletic director at Plano West High School in |

| 7 | 8 | | 2015, drawing to a close a distinguished career in education and |

| 8 | 9 | | athletics that has spanned three and a half decades; and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, A graduate of Dallas Skyline High School, Mike |

| 10 | 11 | | Hughes earned a bachelor's degree from Southern Methodist |

| 11 | 12 | | University and later received his master's degree in school |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | administration from Texas A&M University--Commerce; he worked as an |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | assistant coach with the Plano Independent School District for many |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | years, including service as the offensive coordinator for Plano |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | Senior High School; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed mentor was named head coach at Plano |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | West in 2002, and during his outstanding 13-year tenure, he helped |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | the Wolves reach new levels of achievement on the gridiron; he |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | guided his 2005 squad to an impressive 10-2 overall record, and in |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | 2012, Plano West made the deepest postseason run in school history, |

| 21 | 22 | | advancing to the quarterfinals of the University Interscholastic |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | League 5A Division 2 state playoffs; and |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, After returning to the postseason with the Wolves in |

| 24 | 25 | | 2013, Coach Hughes directed his players to a 9-3 record and a |

| 25 | 26 | | bi-district playoff victory over Keller High School in his final |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | year at the helm; moreover, the school's other sports teams have |

| 27 | 28 | | enjoyed notable success with Coach Hughes leading the way as |

| 28 | 29 | | athletic director; and |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Coach Hughes has been blessed |

| 30 | 31 | | with the love and support of his wife, Carolyn, and his children; he |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | looks forward to spending more time with his family in retirement, |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | as well as pursuing his favorite hobby, fishing; and |

| 33 | 34 | | WHEREAS, For 35 years, Mike Hughes has helped teach young |

| 34 | 35 | | Texans important lessons about teamwork and commitment, and he may |

| 35 | 36 | | indeed reflect with pride on his many accomplishments as he looks |
