| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Father David H. Garcia is celebrating the 40th |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | anniversary of his ordination for the Archdiocese of San Antonio on |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | March 21, 2015; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Ordained in 1975, Fr. Garcia was rector of San |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Fernando Cathedral in San Antonio from 1995 to 2008; he currently |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | serves his community as Administrator of Mission Concepcion and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Director of the Old Spanish Missions of San Antonio; since 2008 he |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | has also served as Senior Advisor for Clergy Outreach for Catholic |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Relief Services, the official international humanitarian agency of |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | the Catholic community in the United States; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, A knowledgeable scholar of divinity, Fr. Garcia |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | holds a B.A. in History from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | and two master's degrees from The University of Notre Dame, in |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Theology and Institutional Administration; furthermore, he held |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | fellowships at Notre Dame from 1972-1974 and at Harvard Divinity |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | School in 1994, and furthered his sabbatical studies at the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Instituto Teologico in Mexico City in 1995 and the University of |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | London Heythrop College in 2005; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed clergyman continues to share his |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | knowledge through the publication of many articles on religious |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | topics for both Catholic and secular news mediums; under his |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | leadership, the parish of San Fernando Cathedral was cited as an |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | outstanding parish in the 2001 directory of Excellent Catholic |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Parishes by Paul Wilkes; during his tenure at Old Spanish Missions, |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | the organization received eight awards for excellent restoration |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | work, including the prestigious Texas Governor’s Award for Historic |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Preservation, in just a four- |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | year period beginning in 2011; and |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of the past six decades, Father |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Garcia has dedicated himself to the spiritual education and |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | enrichment of others, and his strong faith and compassion have |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | benefited countless people; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | Legislature hereby honor Father David H. Garcia on the 40th |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | anniversary of his ordination and extend to him sincere best wishes |
