 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Father David H. Garcia is celebrating the 40th
 anniversary of his ordination for the Archdiocese of San Antonio on
 March 21, 2015; and
 WHEREAS, Ordained in 1975, Fr. Garcia was rector of San
 Fernando Cathedral in San Antonio from 1995 to 2008; he currently
 serves his community as Administrator of Mission Concepcion and
 Director of the Old Spanish Missions of San Antonio; since 2008 he
 has also served as Senior Advisor for Clergy Outreach for Catholic
 Relief Services, the official international humanitarian agency of
 the Catholic community in the United States; and
 WHEREAS, A knowledgeable scholar of divinity, Fr. Garcia
 holds a B.A. in History from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio
 and two master's degrees from The University of Notre Dame, in
 Theology and Institutional Administration; furthermore, he held
 fellowships at Notre Dame from 1972-1974 and at Harvard Divinity
 School in 1994, and furthered his sabbatical studies at the
 Instituto Teologico in Mexico City in 1995 and the University of
 London Heythrop College in 2005; and
 WHEREAS, This esteemed clergyman continues to share his
 knowledge through the publication of many articles on religious
 topics for both Catholic and secular news mediums; under his
 leadership, the parish of San Fernando Cathedral was cited as an
 outstanding parish in the 2001 directory of Excellent Catholic
 Parishes by Paul Wilkes; during his tenure at Old Spanish Missions,
 the organization received eight awards for excellent restoration
 work, including the prestigious Texas Governor’s Award for Historic
 Preservation, in just a four-
 year period beginning in 2011; and
 WHEREAS, Over the course of the past six decades, Father
 Garcia has dedicated himself to the spiritual education and
 enrichment of others, and his strong faith and compassion have
 benefited countless people; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
 Legislature hereby honor Father David H. Garcia on the 40th
 anniversary of his ordination and extend to him sincere best wishes
 for the future; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Father Garcia as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
