5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the |

6 | 7 | | passing of Robert Ray Lawson of Marshall on February 17, 2015, at |

7 | 8 | | the age of 90; and |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Born in Ovilla on July 30, 1924, to William and Bunk |
---|
9 | 10 | | Lawson, Robert Lawson grew up on a farm with his seven siblings |
---|
10 | 11 | | during the Great Depression; he graduated from Midlothian High |
---|
11 | 12 | | School in 1941 and was drafted into the U.S. Army during World War |
---|
12 | 13 | | II, serving as a member of the Army Medical Corps in the Pacific |
---|
13 | 14 | | theater; and |
---|
14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Lawson returned to the United States and met the |
---|
15 | 16 | | love of his life, Mona, and they were joined in matrimony in 1947; |
---|
16 | 17 | | the couple enjoyed more than 60 years of marriage, and together they |
---|
17 | 18 | | became the proud and devoted parents of their son, David; and |
---|
18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan cofounded the Mar-Tex Glass |
---|
19 | 20 | | Company in 1952, and he played an instrumental role in the firm's |
---|
20 | 21 | | success over more than four decades of operation; and |
---|
21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, An active member of First United Methodist Church, |
---|
22 | 23 | | Mr. Lawson also shared his time and talents with numerous other |
---|
23 | 24 | | organizations in his community, including the Marshall Optimist |
---|
24 | 25 | | Club, the Marshall Rotary Club, and the Marshall Chamber of |
---|
25 | 26 | | Commerce; he was a chair of the Marshall Independent School |
---|
26 | 27 | | District School Board for many years and a board member of the |
---|
27 | 28 | | Region VII Education Service Center, Peoples State Bank, and the |
---|
28 | 29 | | Harrison Central Appraisal District; in recognition of his |
---|
29 | 30 | | exceptional work, he was named Outstanding Citizen of Marshall in |
---|
30 | 31 | | 2004, and he was the recipient of an honorary lifetime membership |
---|
31 | 32 | | from the Texas Congress of Parents and Teachers; and |
---|
32 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Although Robert Lawson is deeply missed, he leaves |
---|
33 | 34 | | behind a record of service to his family and fellow citizens that |
---|
34 | 35 | | will not soon be forgotten; now, therefore, be it |
---|
35 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
---|
36 | 37 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Robert Ray Lawson and |
---|
37 | 38 | | extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his |
---|
38 | 39 | | wife, Mona Lawson; to his son, David Lawson and his wife, Tatiana; |

39 | 40 | | and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further |

40 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
