45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the
67 passing of Robert Ray Lawson of Marshall on February 17, 2015, at
78 the age of 90; and
89 WHEREAS, Born in Ovilla on July 30, 1924, to William and Bunk
910 Lawson, Robert Lawson grew up on a farm with his seven siblings
1011 during the Great Depression; he graduated from Midlothian High
1112 School in 1941 and was drafted into the U.S. Army during World War
1213 II, serving as a member of the Army Medical Corps in the Pacific
1314 theater; and
1415 WHEREAS, Mr. Lawson returned to the United States and met the
1516 love of his life, Mona, and they were joined in matrimony in 1947;
1617 the couple enjoyed more than 60 years of marriage, and together they
1718 became the proud and devoted parents of their son, David; and
1819 WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan cofounded the Mar-Tex Glass
1920 Company in 1952, and he played an instrumental role in the firm's
2021 success over more than four decades of operation; and
2122 WHEREAS, An active member of First United Methodist Church,
2223 Mr. Lawson also shared his time and talents with numerous other
2324 organizations in his community, including the Marshall Optimist
2425 Club, the Marshall Rotary Club, and the Marshall Chamber of
2526 Commerce; he was a chair of the Marshall Independent School
2627 District School Board for many years and a board member of the
2728 Region VII Education Service Center, Peoples State Bank, and the
2829 Harrison Central Appraisal District; in recognition of his
2930 exceptional work, he was named Outstanding Citizen of Marshall in
3031 2004, and he was the recipient of an honorary lifetime membership
3132 from the Texas Congress of Parents and Teachers; and
3233 WHEREAS, Although Robert Lawson is deeply missed, he leaves
3334 behind a record of service to his family and fellow citizens that
3435 will not soon be forgotten; now, therefore, be it
3536 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
3637 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Robert Ray Lawson and
3738 extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his
3839 wife, Mona Lawson; to his son, David Lawson and his wife, Tatiana;
3940 and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further
4041 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4142 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4243 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Robert Ray
4344 Lawson.
