H.R. No. 1424
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Tigua Recreation and Wellness Center in Socorro
serves as a valuable resource that provides area residents with
improved opportunities to take part in fitness activities; and
WHEREAS, Opened by the Ysleta del Sur Pueblo in 2001, the
Tigua Recreation and Wellness Center encompasses more than 100,000
square feet of space and includes an Olympic-size pool, weights and
fitness equipment, and racquetball, basketball, tennis, and
volleyball courts; and
WHEREAS, Access to the center was originally limited to the
members of the pueblo, but since 2014, it has served the general
public as well; this development has greatly benefited individuals
in the Lower Valley, which has a shortage of recreational
facilities; and
WHEREAS, Exercise is a vital component of a healthy
lifestyle, and by enabling more people to take advantage of its
facilities, the Tigua Recreation and Wellness Center is making a
valuable contribution to its community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
Legislature hereby recognize the Tigua Recreation and Wellness
Center for the role it plays in encouraging healthy physical
activity and commend its management and staff for their efforts;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the Tigua Recreation and Wellness Center as an
expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
